Eugene Elchert

Eugene V. Elchert, 61, of 489 Hedges St., died at 1:19 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1976, in Tiffin Mercy Hospital. He had been in failing health for six weeks.

He was born Sept. 8, 1914, in Tiffin to Otto and Rose (Smith) Elchert. For the past 23 years he has been owner and manager of the Elchert Religious Shops with 22 outlets. Prior to that time, he was employed by National Machinery. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society.

He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Louise Hartzell, to whom he was married at St. Mary's Church on Feb. 2, 1935.

The following children also survive: Gregory of Philadelphia, Pa., David of Upland, Calif., Michael of Tiffin, Timothy of Reidsville, Ga., Nicholas of Granite City, Ill., Benedict and Christopher, Mrs. Betty Mullins and Victoria, all at home, and Mrs. Frank (Marilyn) Rohrbach of Republic.

Also surviving are three brothers, Ivan and Reuben of Tiffin and Richard of Findlay; six sisters, Mrs. Marshall (Myrtle) Kenan of Fremont, Sister Marie Celine of St. Francis Convent, Mrs. Bernadine Huss, Mrs. Sylvan (Pauline) Hohman and Mrs. Joseph (Marie) Keefe, all of Tiffin, and Mrs. Carl (Evelyn) Gerten of Tecumseh, Mich.; and 24 grandchildren. A son John, and a daughter, Rosalie Brickner, are deceased.

Mass of the Resurrection will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call at the Pahl-Nemith Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. The Holy Name Society will recite the Rosary there at 8 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Intensive Care Unit of Tiffin Mercy Hospital.
