A TRIBUTE TO MY PARENTS

In the spring of the year 1907 a young German barber from Tiffin, Ohio, took as his bride a 22-year-old French girl from Defiance, Ohio.

We are a family of eight children, now midway into maturity, some with the striking dark beauty of the French blood flowing through our veins, and the rest with the more quiet coloring and features of our German ancestors.

We all hold our heads just a little bit higher, because one of us was a member of the Holy Cross Order whom God was pleased to call unto Himself.

From our father we have inherited our sense of humor and our easy laughter. From our mother we have inherited our love of God and our love of reading.

One by one we have all left our parent's home to make our own way in life. Some to different cities and even to different states in this great country of ours.

But once a year, on the Sunday between Christmas and New Year's, finds us together and somehow, no matter what the difficulties, we all manage to get there.

And I pray "Dear God, please keep it that way until the very end."
